Mr. Matthew, a Tallahassee attorney, has made it a life-time obsession to study the life of Bobby Jones, traveling all over the country inspiring and entertaining captive audiences. Mr. Jones retired from competitive golf in 1930, at age 28, leaving a vivid imprint on the world of golf. Come join us as we walk through golfing memory lane, recounting the impressive life of the Grand Slam winner, Augusta National founder, Harvard graduate, lawyer, author, family man, and gentleman! Several of Mr. Mathew's books will be available on The Life of Bobby Jones.
About the Speaker
Sidney L. Matthew is a trial lawyer practicing in Tallahassee, Florida. He has written several books on Jones: The History of Bobby Jones Clubs (1992); Life & Times of Bobby Jones (1995) (winner of Benjamin Franklin Award by the Printing Industries of America); Secrets of the Master--The Best of Bobby Jones (1996); Bobby Jones on Golf (1997);Champions of East Lake — Bobby Jones & Friends (1999); Bobby Jones Golf Tips — Secrets of the Master (1999); Boy’s Life of Bobby Jones (2002). He also penned Wry Stories on the Road Hole (2000) and History of the Tallahassee Bar (2000). He edited the Centennial Anniversary Edition of The Bobby Jones Story The Authorized Biography (2003). The author’s films include The History and Tradition of Golf in Scotland (1989) and the universally acclaimed Life & Times of Bobby Jones narrated by actor Sean Connery and broadcast nationally on CBS television preceding the 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2002 Masters Tournament. He wrote and helped produce Citizen Smith — the biography of famous Floridian Chesterfield Smith (in 1997).
